Stu,

Attention all ACT Health Care Reformists

Recess Rallies by Healthcare Opponents Planned

Who: Anti-reform "anti-socialism" right wing group says that finally they are feeling wind at their back.

What: Rallies at the 1,000+ congressperson's offices

When: Noon Saturday, August 22, 2009, plan to arrive at 11:30

 Why: Media attention, of course

Where: 9220 Kimmer Dr., Suite #220 • Lone Tree, CO 80124 (Coffman) or another representative's office if you choose

What can we do?  Being there with supportive signs helps. Do not engage with them. Be calm.

What are we fighting for? The public option or single-payer, your choice. Cost-containment is at risk if the public option is lost. We can't expect the private, for-profit insurance industry to do reduce costs. These insurers will have increased costs if "no pre-existing condition and no health ratings or recissions " are adopted. They will increase premiums and deductibles to counter that, of course. Subsidies for the poor will then add exponentially to the federal deficit.

We must have the public option to introduce cost-savings measures like alternative payment mechanisms to providers, internet connectivity, best practices guidelines, outpatient clinics instead of inappropriate ER use, and all other reforms that will pay only for efficiently-delivered health care. Government can do this best because they have strong negotiation and regulatory powers over their own institutions. Plus, they have the will to do it in order to save Medicare from extinction.

Meet at 11:30 AM with your home-made sign.
