Caucus Schmaucus - Why Should I Attend?

Colorado's precinct caucuses are coming up on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 6 p.m. (6 p.m. to 7 p.m. checkin - 7 p.m. Caucus BEGINS) House District 37 will hold all 53 precinct caucuses at Newton Middle School (located on the northeast corner of Arapahoe Road and Colorado Blvd).
Please park in the EAST parking lot and enter through the door on the EAST side. Due to security concerns, we will need to post a "greet" at this door to open it for you.

OVERFLOW PARKING:
1. Newton Middle School - North parking lot
2. Church of Christ at 6485 S. Colorado Blvd.
3. Olinger Funeral Home at 6601 S. Colorado Blvd.

The main purpose of the caucus for 2008 is to nominate a presidental candidate and congressional candidate for each party (Democrat and Republican). The caucus system replaces a presidential primary election.

ALSO, we will elect precinct committee people PCPs (two for each precinct), elect delgates to the county assembly (Saturday, March 1 - 9 a.m. to noon - Overland High School), and consider resolutions/platform issues.

NOTE: Colorado State Assembly is schedule for Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Colorado Springs at the World Arena:
http://www.worldarena.com/

Our plan in HD37 is to locate PCPs PRIOR to the caucus so that we have strong volunteers in place at the precinct level for the important actitives to take place in 2008 - these nominees will attend the caucuson 2-5-08 to be officially elected to their positions. We have GREAT resources for PCPs - the Colorado VAN on-line voter system - volunteer guides - and our HD37 web site (http://www.hd37dems.org/). ANYONE can come to a precinct caucus; HOWEVER, you MUST be a registered Democrat to VOTE or be elected as a PCP. You must live in the precinct at least 25 days prior to the caucus AND have been a registered DEMOCRAT voter for at least two months - so by December 5, 2007 for our 2008 caucus.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to help on Caucus night - check-in, helping with counts, etc.PLEASE let me know - vineta@aol.com or 303-713-0714 if you are interested in serving as PCP for your precinct. MORE soon on the caucus - PLEASE plan to attend this important meeting so YOUR VOICE is heard.
