Let's give our House District Vice Chair a helping hand in her efforts.

Subject: What do sweat and caffeine have to do with each other?
Three weeks and counting. I"m in last place (as far as fundraising goes!) and that is in large part because my family is so small. My relative, Carly, is still a dependent until that magic day of graduation followed by job occurs. And Edward, my other relative, is already a supporter!~ So, there's my family - immediate and extended. But everyone else at Socially Conscious Coffee has this (unfair) advantage over me so now I'm digging deep and sending this reminder that I'm fundraising for this half-marathon event to raise awareness and support of the vital work that SCC does and their highly noble mission.
Coffee-lovers,
Did you know coffee is the world's most popular beverage, with more than 400 billion cups of coffee enjoyed each year. Americans drink 400 million cups of coffee per day. Really.
Behind all these cups is the largest and poorest group of people in the coffee industry: harvesters and their families.
Did you know fair trade certified coffee only certifies that the coffee bean owners, the farm owners, receive fair market value for their beans. This does nothing to improve the lives of the harvesters who are at the bottom of the food chain (no pun intended).
The mission of SCC is to help these working-poor class create sustainable prosperity through education, health care and environmental stewardship.
Brazil is the world's largest producer of coffee. There are nearly 5 million Brazilian coffee harvesters and laborers. The majority of these workers and their families live in remote and underdeveloped regions with limited infrastructure, schools, services, and transportation.
See the attached pictures - one shows you where Educafe (SCC's school) is located. If you flew there from the US it would take two days to arrive. (SCC is working on starting a volunteer vacation program - just in case you're enticed :-) )
One shows the classroom so you can see how extremely awesome SCC's work is. Students are given meals and snacks that they wouldn't other have. So they aren't starving and they can learn better.
The third picture is of Patricia, one student, who is so darling. She has transformed into a new person since starting school four years ago. (If you wanted to sponsor a child's education, SCC offers that option on their website. Contact stephanie@sccoffee.org.)
So, anyway, that's my schpeel - the whole schtick. Please forward this email on to others who love the world at large and coffee!
See info below on how to donate and receive a free pound of SCC coffee. Peace and out, MIMI

Subject: Socially Conscious Coffee and the Colfax Marathon
Hi,
On May 16th, Carly graduates from college (yeah - finally) and on the same day I am participating in a half-marathion called the Colfax Marathon. Both events take place in Denver and both events are near and dear to my heart. While Carly is blessed to join the ranks of having a college degree, many children of the world are unable to dream of even a basic education for themselves. The race on Colfax (http://coloradocolfaxmarathon.com/) is a half-marathon fundraiser for my team, Pour Some Glucose on Me, comprised of me and my friends who support Socially Conscious Coffee (www.sccoffee.org). SCC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of coffee harvesters who are the poorest of the poor in the coffee chain. SCC has their first school in a rural community in Bahia, Brazil where children of harvesters receive a first rate education, adults learn to read and mens and womens groups work on community projects. I am lucky that I am a parent who can provide well for my child. However, the coffee harvesters work in very physically demanding jobs and work very hard and only barely manage to scrape by.
I am raising money for this very worthy cause and I'm asking you to help me by making a contribution! Please use the link in this email to donate online quickly & securely. For each $100 donation, I will send you a bag of terrific Brazilian coffee beans ideal for starting your morning on the right foot and with your eyes wide open. You will receive email confirmation of your donation and I will be notified as soon as you make your donation. I thank you in advance for your support, and really appreciate your generosity!!
