Subject: Our Schools: Surviving the Fiscal Crisis
Vorry,
The League of Women's Voters of Arapahoe County has announced a forum focusing on our schools and the state's fiscal budget. To help offset its budget deficit, the state is cutting over $340 million and possibly more from K-12 education. Many school districts have already cut significant portions of money from their budget and are now considering staff layoffs, eliminating special programs and cutting other student services.
Find out how our local school districts are coping at a forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Arapahoe County. The forum will feature Tracie Rainey, Executive Director of the Colorado School Finance Project; Scott Murphy, Littleton School District Superintendent; Mary Chesley, Superintendent of Cherry Creek Schools, and John Berry, Aurora Schools Superintendent.
Rainey will give a brief history of K-12 funding in Colorado and describe the current funding status. The Superintendents will discuss how the budget cuts are impacting their schools and what they can do to offset the funding shortage. An audience question and answer session will follow.
Our Schools: Surviving the Fiscal Crisis
When: Wednesday, March 10, 6:30 pm
Where: Koelbel Library, 5955 South Holly Street, Centennial
This is a timely discussion, and a topic most important to most of our members. I invite anyone interested to attend this informative discussion.
