Kind Regards, Rebecca McClellan Council Member, Dist. 3 City of Centennial, CO (303) 956-2845 Jan. 6th: Centennial Airport Noise Meeting The newly formed Centennial Airport/Community Noise Roundtable has scheduled a public meeting to seek input about noise related issues on Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hotel Gold Crown/Ramada adjacent to the Air Traffic Control Tower at 7770 S Peoria St, Englewood, CO 80112. The Roundtable is charged with discovering and creating noise mitigation actions, find opportunities for implementation, and evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation. Members of the public wishing to address the Roundtable will be asked to add their names to a sign-up sheet and each person will be able to speak for three minutes. This interactive forum is an opportunity for the community to have their noise concerns addressed. Centennial Airport recently completed a Part 150 Study, which included 12 recommendations for noise mitigation. One of the recommendations was the formation of a Community Roundtable to address the noise impact of Centennial Airport traffic on communities surrounding the airport. Due to the increasing impact of aircraft noise on residents living near airports around the country, Congress established the Aviation Safety and Noise Abatement Act in 1979 and created a program known as Part 150 Studies. These Part 150 Studies help airports determine compatible land use surrounding airports, identify existing and future projected aircraft noise levels, and identify possible recommendations for noise mitigation. The Noise Roundtable is made up of officials from both Arapahoe and Douglas Counties along with the City of Aurora, City of Castle Pines North, Town of Castle Rock, City of Centennial, Cherry Hills Village, City and County of Denver, Town of Foxfield, City of Greenwood Village, City of Lone Tree, and the Town of Parker. Paul Rosenberg of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, has been chosen as the Roundtable Chairman. Centennial representatives on this body were appointed by Mayor Pye, and are from Districts 4 and 2. I-25/Arapahoe Interchange System Level Feasibility Study: Arapahoe Corridor Study & project documents: Centennial Receives Ruling on Medical Marijuana Dispensary Arapahoe County District Judge Christopher Cross issued a preliminary injunction today in favor of "CannaMart", a medical marijuana dispensary, finding the City of Centennial cannot rely on the federal law prohibition against marijuana sale and distribution to ban such operations throughout the City. Although the court found the dispensary's operation violated federal law, he ruled that the plaintiffs may be able to prove, at trial, that the City lacked authority to rely on this federal law to prohibit medical marijuana dispensaries. This is a preliminary ruling only and a trial on the full merits of the case will be scheduled later in 2010. In light of this oral ruling, the City Council will consider and decide the appropriate next steps to address the judge's findings, including whether to appeal the decision. In recognition of the rapidly growing number of unregulated medical marijuana dispensaries in Colorado, the City Council approved a moratorium on December 14, 2009. This 6 month moratorium provides the City time to develop regulations in the event that a court required the City to recognize medical marijuana dispensaries as a legal land use. As a result of the judge's ruling today, that moratorium is now in effect. No new medical marijuana dispensaries will be approved in Centennial until the City develops a new regulatory program to address the community impacts presented by such marijuana businesses. Below are links to the latest media coverage regarding the ruling on CannaMart's ability to operate their business in the City.
