In Colorado, this year, we have the opportunity to vote for the national Senate race. To determine which candidate goes on the ballot, Colorado holds both a caucus, held on March 16, and a primary, held in August. The Colorado caucus is only open to those affiliated with a particular party. The deadline for party affiliation to participate in the Colorado caucus is January 19th. Voter registration forms are available at either www.arapahoedems.org or www.arapahoevotes.com.
In order to vote in any precinct caucus of a political party, the voter must meet the following requirements:
- The voter must be a resident of the precinct for at least 30 days;
- The voter must have registered to vote no later than February 16, 2010;
- The voter must have been affiliated with the party holding the caucus by January 19, 2010;
NOTE: Except that any voter who turns 18 or becomes a naturalized citizen during the two months prior to the caucus may vote in the caucus even though he or she has not been affiliated with the political party for the required time period.
